Last month, Samsung announced the entry-level Android smartphone – the Samsung Galaxy Y. This handset is the company’s cheapest Android phone. Samsung has recently launched this device for the mobile phone users in India. This handset runs on the latest Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) Operating System. Until last week, Samsung Galaxy Pop was the company’s cheapest Android phone, but the title has now been transferred to the Samsung Galaxy Y. This handset is specially targeted at the youth in India. Samsung Galaxy Y features a 3 inch QVGA touchscreen display, sporting a resolution of 320 × 240 pixels, 883 MHz processor, Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) OS, TouchWiz UI, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, 3G Connectivity, 2 megapixel camera, 3.5 mm headset jack, Stereo FM Radio with RDS, 160 MB internal memory, microSD card slot, 32 GB expandable memory, 2 GB microSD card included, Bluetooth 3.0, GPS with A-GPS, Samsung Apps, Samsung Kies 2.0, up to 300 mins talk-time, up to 350 hours stand-by time and a 1200 mAh battery.
This handset comes with a price tag of Rs.7830, but you can easily get this device for around Rs.7200 in India. Even though, Samsung Galaxy Y offers decent specs and various connectivity options, but it lacks a front-facing camera for video calls. This handset will compete with other entry-level Android phones such as Micromax A70, LG Optimus Me, Motorola Charm, etc, in the Indian market.
